Tippi and the Hedrons

Press Photographer Scotland

Press Photographer Scotland. It’s been a busy few weeks, with jobs ranging from Dick and Dom, Scottish Magazine Awards, Cow of the Year (seriously) to Robert Plant. Tonight I gave a talk at Kilmarnock Photographic Club and in between the telling of stories and enjoying coffee and shortbread, I got an unexpected compliment. Although I’m secure enough in myself not to need compliments or praise for my work, it’s still nice to hear. I know my strengths and weaknesses, quite happy where my photography is after over 30 years in the business.

Anyway, I was showing pics and chatting about jobs, people I’d photographed, etc. and I showed this pic of Glasgow indie rockers Tippi and the Hedrons and commenting how it was still one of my favourite pics, even after 10-12 years since I took it. At the break, one of the members told me that he knew Tippi personally and she often talked about this picture and loved it, and about the Evening Times photographer who lined her and the girls up against a pvc clad wall in a dark corridor at the ABC, Glasgow. Nice to know that people like what I do, even after 12 years.

I loved my time at the Evening Times as a staffer, worked with some of the best photographers in the country, the best picture desk and with 3 editions a day, the hardest paper to work for also. It was often said if you could work for the Evening Times, you could work for anyone. Sadly, it’s a shadow of it’s former self…
